How Important is Rest for Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue?

Make Sure to Rest More with chronic pain and fatigue

"When your body says “rest,” … but you want to keep going"

Anyone else? 😜

If you're like me, I often would confuse resting more with being lazy, which honestly, is the last thing I think any of us would ever want to be labeled as, so this one can be a real challenge to overcome. But studies show that resting more, especially for someone dealing with a chronic illness, is really a necessity when it comes feeling and looking our best! In fact, when our bodies are in a constant state of stress, from overwork and lack of adequate rest periods, our sympathetic nervous system (or our flight or fight system ) stays on longer than it should and this is what contributes to increasing our levels of pain and fatigue over time. But when we calm ourselves and take time to rest, our parasympathetic nervous system switches on, which helps us to heal and recover faster.

❤️ So here is todays tip:

The next time you feel guilty, or someone else makes you feel guilty about taking more time to rest, I recommend viewing the rest like taking a specific medicine for a chronic illness- it is absolutely necessary for your health. So don’t skip it, plan for it! I know how simple this sounds, but believe me, if you are serious about proper rest, it will change your life! ☺️
